Question: In relation to bushfire prone suburbs around Hobart, can the Acting Director please advise if suburbs that border bushland, like West Hobart and Sandy Bay, are being treated any different to suburbs such as Fern Tree or Mount Nelson which are surrounded by bush? Answer: West Hobart and Sandy Bay are areas marked as areas to engage with during the community engagement process. Council is happy to organise more street meetings if they are popular or if there are residents that would like a meeting hosted in their area. Research has shown that these community meetings are a really effective tool in assisting people to take action and develop a bushfire survival plan and undertake action to protect their property in the event of a bushfire. They are usually run on a Saturday to make it easier for residents to attend. |
