File Ref: 13-1-10
8.1 Alderman Burnet - West Hobart Street Party - Pine Street File Ref: 13-1-10 |
Question: Was there consultation with the residents of Pine Street to hold the street party on Saturday 30th June 2018? Answer: The Acting Associate Director Community and Culture advised that letters were sent to affected residents and business owners in Pine Street and a door knock was done. To our knowledge there was only one person who complained about the street party and road closure during the engagement.
8.2 Alderman Burnet - West Hobart Street Party - John Doggett Park File Ref: 13-1-10 |
Question: Was there any consideration to hold the neighbourhood street party in the John Doggett Park? Answer: The Acting Associate Director Community and Culture advised that, following feedback from the concerned resident in Pine Street, consideration was given to holding the event in John Doggett Park however there was work being undertaken in the Park at the time. Also, the organisers, West Hobart Love Your Streets group, preferred a Street Party as this was their first event and they wanted it to be very public and have the opportunities for the local businesses to be involved. It is also noted that at the time the complaint was received, the event had already been widely promoted by the community. The organisers have indicated that were they to hold future events, they could be held in other facilities such as a park so as to avoid road closures etc.
8.3 Alderman Burnet - West Hobart Street Party - Bi-monthly Event File Ref: 13-1-10 |
Question: At the street party Alderman Reynolds, who was participating , asked whether the participants wanted this event every second month. Is there any grounds for this and whether Council would support it? Answer: The Acting Associate Director Community and Culture advised that, Council officers played a support/facilitation role for this event and provided some funding for road closure and toilets. Alderman Reynolds was nominated as the spokesperson by the Lord Mayor as he was unable to attend and accordingly was provided with speaking notes. There was no suggestion made by Council officers that any future events would be held as this event was part of a larger community project where the funding allocation has now been utilised (2017-18 financial year). If the West Hobart Love Your Streets group wished to work together in the future and hold events there would be limited resources provided by Council apart from advice and potentially promotion through facebook etc. It is noted that were the community group to form a registered organisation, they would be eligible to apply for community grants to support future activities. |
That the Council resolve by majority that the meeting be closed to the public pursuant to regulation 15(1) of the Local Government (Meeting Procedures) Regulations 2015 because the items included on the closed agenda contain the following matters:
